BugleBug" is a name dedicated to the great grandfather of Chicago's Grilli family, Mr. Joseph Grilli, Sr. The name "Grilli" comes from the Latin name "gryllus" which is used by entomologists to identify the various species of domestic and field crickets. Joe Grilli fled Italy in the early 1900's to escape from the ever growing fascist movement at the time.  As a new American citizen he joined the U.S. army during WW1 and was assigned to the bugle corps. Hence the name, "BugleBug".

Upon his return to the U.S. he married Susan Gianetti, had four children and founded the Grilli construction company.  After three generations the company  still exists today as one of the leading  home and commercial builders throughout the south Chicago area.  Without Joe Grilli (my grandfather) there would be no Russ Grilly (my father) and then no Dave Grilly (yours truly, a.k.a Don Pocketts). 

Don Pocketts is my professional musician's stage name. It represents over 40 years experience as a professional saxophonist, band leader and studio musician in the Chicago Area. My extensive background in musical entertainment has expanded into the area of video production. Currently I am developing promotional videos for the University of Chicago's  Jazz Studies, the Chicago SGI Peace Concert Series and the Chicago Public Schools for which this entire web site is dedicated to. The name "Don Pocketts"  was given to me by the building janitor of a condo in Chicago where I lived at the time. He thought that would be a good name for me because he always saw me carrying an extensive amount of equipment in and out of the building. I would bring as many as 18 horns to a single club gig many of which are strung around my neck in "gig bags" (which are just big pockets)."Don" is indicative of supreme masculine strength, needed to cary all those saxophones. "Pocketts" is indicative of extreme hypo manic obsessive compulsive attachment to a tremendous amount of material items which feed obsessive compulsive self indulgence, like musical instruments, video cameras, computers, etc.
