Executive Summary

Today the idea of communication through video has become more common place than anyone could ever imagine.  From our nationŐs youth to our global societyŐs top leaders, television/video has become our primary medium of communication. This ranges from viewing the highlights of a three-year-olds' birthday party, to a corporate news letter, to a Presidential State of the Union Address. BugleBug Video Media Services (BugleBug) is a company which targets specific portions of the lucrative video production market.  The role of BugleBug is to bring high quality video production to clients and organizations which have a great need for these services but must get them in the most cost-effective means possible.  These clients have the need for professional quality work but may not have the resources to get them. They have vital projects beyond the scope of amateur help, with a budget much too small to accomplish them. 

"BugleBug Video Media Services is a small business aimed at developing high-quality cost-effective video enabling each client to communicate their message to a targeted audience who in turn benefits from this message".

The above open ended mission statement is subject to a wide range of interpretation. BugleBug's targeted markets and the audience for the type of videos produced set unique parameters for the following business plan.


Targeted Markets and Types of Clients

    Public/private event video recording

Concerts, speeches, school plays, CD release parties, weddings, retirement parties, etc.            

    Educational and Informational videos

Social service agency functions, k-16 educational topics, biographies,  exploratory video production for potential markets which still need to be defined, etc.

    Humor Series

These are a continuing series of short scriptedepisodic videos for all ages. They are aimed at teaching various aspects of human character along with other educational information (such as music, art and history).  Examples of these videos can be found on our website www.buglebug.com.

Production Services

BugleBug currently offers production services for the targeted markets mentioned above.  For each client video the full-cycle of the basic steps needed to complete an entire production includes: defining client requirements, writing a treatment, writing a script, creating a shot list, shooting the scenes, editing the video, editing the sound; adding voice-overs, sound effects, visual effects, animation, and titles; final online editing for client approval, and distribution (VHS, DVD, Web).             

For a specific video, BugleBug could also provide services for a portion of the client's full-cycle production needs. For example, these services may include but are not limited to scripting, camera work, video editing, sound editing, music composition, and subject research.

For each client our vision is to:

1.     Produce the same outstanding quality results time after time.

2.     Be recognized as the top video producer in its class through the Chicago Area.

3.     Be steadfast to our commitment for customer service and satisfaction.

Our keys to success will be providing high quality videos, competitive pricing, and excellent customer service as our hallmark.

BugleBug Video Media Services is currently located in Chicago, IL.  The staff consists of me, David Grilly and occasional use of camera operators, video editors and sound engineers.  As BugleBug's business expands I plan to have a part-time administrative assistant who would help keep track of clients, accounting, scheduling, etc.  Business expansion within the above mentioned target markets would also call for help with multi-camera shoots, leased equipment (cameras, lights, computers), interactive animation, web programming,  professional script writing, more complex video and sound editing, etc.  These services would be called upon as needed.  This current level of business is planned to be operative to the end of 2006. After that date, larger and more complex projects may be pursued.

In the future, BugleBug could be called upon to do a lengthy complex documentary, or other high level corporate endeavors such as TV commercials or infomercials. Currently this is not BugleBug's targeted market.  The targets mentioned above when approached and managed properly can bring a great deal of income opportunity for sole proprietorship and a chance to grow technically as well as professionally.
